A methodology for integrating Knowledge Management in Business SolutionsDespite the growing interest in knowledge management over the last twenty years and the undoubted importance of KM in the Knowledge Economy, progress can be characterised as single dimensional. In other words knowledge management has been developing as a discipline on its own as if it could provide solutions in isolation from the processes or decision support tools/applications where the knowledge will be used. We use the term Applied Knowledge Engineering as the discipline pertaining to development of Knowledge Networking Solutions (KNS). Knowledge Networking Solutions facilitate the deployment of knowledge within an organisation with an emphasis on support for organisational responsiveness. The distinction between Knowledge Networking Solutions and knowledge management solutions is that KNS is aimed at integrating KM in management and operational processes and their support IT systems. In guiding the development of KNS, Applied Knowledge Engineering provides methodological support for: · Specifying how strategy and operational processes can drive the knowledge management process; · Designing how knowledge is used to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of both management and operational processes; · Process and product measurement are analysis to support performance control decisions; · Adaptation and improvement of both business processes and knowledge management processes.
